A quick dog food recall news alert as of October 13th, 2012:
Nature’s Recipe has announced a voluntary recall for two lots of its Nature’s Recipe Oven Baked Biscuits with Real Chicken due to the potential for Salmonella contamination.
While no illnesses have been reported in people or pets to date, Salmonella can affect pets eating the products and there is also a risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products
Dogs infected by Salmonella may have diarrhea (possibly bloody) and show signs of vomiting or lethargy, while other dogs may only have decreased appetite or abdominal pain. Pets infected by Salmonella are also at risk for infecting other animals and humans.
The Nature’s Recipe recall applies only to 19 ounce resealable pouches Nature’s Recipe Oven Baked Biscuits with Real Chicken, and is only applicable to bags with one of the following codes:
Lot code 2199TP, UPC 30521 51549, Best If Used By Date 10-11-13
Lot code 2200TP, UPC 30521 51549, Best If Used By Date 10-12-13
The recalled dog treats have been distributed nationally, primarily through pet specialty retailers. Nature’s Recipe has additional information regarding the recall on its website, and concerned customers are encouraged to contact the Nature’s Recipe Consumer Affairs team at 1-800-237-3856.
