Doane Pet Care Co. has issued a recall for its Ol’ Roy Complete Nutrition dog food due to concerns of possible salmonella contamination. The food is only sold through Wal-Mart stores, and only a single batch of 55lb bags of the formula is being recalled. The batch was produced at a Manassas, Virginia plant and was distributed to Wal-Mart stores in Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Ohio.
Doane reports that people handling the food could potentially be exposed to the bacteria, as well as pets that eat the food; the company however says no illnesses have been reported to day.
This recall does not have any relation to the melamine-tainted pet food recall. Additional information can be found on the Doane web site.
